A properly sized VFD converter 240V single-phase
230V 3-phase, 60 Hz – most popular in small/medium US shops
460/480V 3-phase, 60 Hz – best for larger shops/industrial panels (lower amps)
(208V 3-phase is possible in the US but check nameplate/FLA carefully.)

Single-phase shops (no 3-phase on site)
VFD/phase-converter route: A properly sized VFD can convert 240V single-phase → 240V 3-phase for the pump motor. Choose an industrial VFD rated for single-phase input and sized with headroom (often 1.5–2× the motor HP).
A rotary phase converter (RPC) also works; size ≥1.5× the motor HP and use a soft-start/VFD downstream if you want gentler starts and quieter operation.
Expect higher input current on single-phase; plan your breaker/wire accordingly.

Control & enclosure
Low-voltage control circuit is typically 24V (DC) with an IEC/NEMA enclosure on the machine.
E-stop, foot pedal, jog, and pressure/tonnage controls come through the control panel; VFDs (if used) are usually panel-mounted with proper cooling/derating.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rough electrical planning (rule-of-thumb)
(Exact HP/FLA can vary by build; check your nameplate before finalizing wire/breaker sizes.)
For a ~5-7.5 HP 45–5.5 kW) pump motor typical of a 30-ton class press:
230V 3-phase: ~20–30 A FLA → commonly a 14-22 A FLA commonly 30 - 40-amp breaker, #10–#8 AWG Cu run length-dependent
460V 3-phase: ~7–11 A FLA → commonly a 25–30 A breaker, #12–#10 AWG Cu
If using a VFD, follow the VFD maker’s input protection and motor cable specs (EMC-rated cable, bonding, and proper grounding).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Frequency considerations
60 Hz is standard in North America. Running a 50 Hz motor/pump reduces pump speed/flow (~17%), affecting cycle time. Order the correct 60 Hz winding for US shops.

Plug vs. hardwire
These presses are typically hardwired to a local disconnect (no plug). Add a lockable fused disconnect within sight of the machine.
